About this drawing: The big purple circle under the turkeys is a plate. Two turkeys are making a joke. The first turkey says to the second, “Why did the turkey cross the playground?” “To get to the other slide.” The pilgrim and the Indian are bringing food to the plate for Thanksgiving dinner.
When I was a kid my favorite dessert was Apple Dessert. The name couldn’t be less original, I know, but the dessert is wonderful. Skye helped me make it yesterday to surprise Kirsten when she got home from work. Skye turned up her nose when I got out the cheese and really grimaced when I began grating the butter.
6 sliced apples
1/4 C hot water
1 t cinnamon
3/4 C flour
1 C sugar
1 C grated cheese
1/2 C grated butter
Peel and slice apples into 13×9″ baking pan. Stir cinnamon into hot water and pour over apples. Combine flour, sugar, grated cheese and grated butter. Sprinkle over apples. Bake at 350°F for one hour. Let cool for a bit. Enjoy.
When I grow up I want be a superhero.
I could fly over the city and the whole world.
I could save people from dragons, evil sorcerers, villains, and any other thing you could imagine.
When I grow up I want to be a rock star.
I could sing to a whole crowd of people.
Everyone would be impressed and I would win awards.
When I grow up I want be a movie star.
I could be in plays and movies.
I would be famous.
But most of all, when I grow up, I want to be…me.

I’m excited for our family blog. It will be nice for us to share our thoughts and keep everyone up to date, as we have many friends and family with whom we don’t communicate regularly. I also think it’s a great way to keep a record of our lives. I have thoughts, ideas, and experiences that seem significant, yet too quickly they are forgotten.
I love that this blog allows our family to connect with each other. I feel like we have a unified purpose. I think it’s going to be fun and I believe it will encourage the girls to think more about different things and allow us to share and be exposed to different perspectives and ideas.
My hope for danley.org is that it helps us connect with family and friends, tightens the bonds we have with each other and provides a place for the girls to share their creativity with others.
It’s ours. And it’s better than an annual Christmas card. This long-term project is for us but we enthusiastically welcome participation from others. If you have ideas and suggestions please send us an email or leave a comment.
The plan is to have weekly post assignments for the family. We will also be posting whenever else we have something to share (drawings, videos, audio recordings, recipes, pictures, announcements, travelogues, poetry, book reviews, links and stories). With five people regularly posting it should always be fresh.
Anybody can comment on posts (please do!) but all comments will be moderated. Kirsten and I will work hard to keep the site clean and safe.
I like the family blog because our friends and cousins, and even other people can know more about us. I like putting pictures on and writing about things I do in my life. I want people to know about my favorite things.
About the drawing: Mom asked me to draw a picture about myself for the blog. That’s me at Fairfield School. We’re lining up. I’m the caboose, that’s why there isn’t anybody behind me. In the foreground is our playground.
I love this blog because I can tell the whole world about myself and things I do. Daddy made an artistic, thoughtful, detailed and cool idea for a family tradition. I want to continue this over my lifetime and forever. I think it’s a good idea for the family.
I especially love when we have an assigned topic to all type about. I can see all the interesting things everyone came up with for the same exact subject.
About the drawing: Mom asked me to draw a picture about myself for the blog. I want to be a super hero (except there’s no such thing). Because C. K. Burns is my school, I decided to fly over it on a nice sunny day.
I like doing family blogs because I like writing things. And drawing pictures. I love typing on the computer and when people see all about us. I love thinking about my life.
About the drawing: Mom asked me to draw a picture about myself for the blog. There’s a little groundhog because it’s Groundhog Day (no other reason than that’s what I wanted to draw). In the background is my school, Fairfield. That’s me behind the cat. I drew the cat because I thought it would look nice in the picture. His owner is halfway off my drawing. It’s spring, that’s why there’s both snow, a little bit of leaves on the trees and flowers. I like rainbows.
