Festibond 2012: My Date With Brent

Our Festibond dates wouldn’t be complete if Brent and I didn’t have a date together. Brent told me he wanted to take me to see the latest “Les Miserables” movie at the theater. There were other movies showing that I knew Brent would prefer, but he said to me: “‘Les Mes’ would be better, because when I think of it I think of you. And I really want to think of you.” It was very touching and sweet of him!

Festibond 2012 – My Date With Dad

On Tuesday afternoon I went on a Festibond date with my dad. Festibond is a holiday my family celebrates every year in December. We spend a lot of time together, write each other loving letters, play games, give hugs, and my sisters and I each individually have a date with my mom and a date with my dad.

When we were driving to the restaurant, we had many conversations that ranged from the raindrops on the front window to school to talking about how you get from one conversation to another. When dad was driving, he went past the restaurant and when he noticed he did so, he went back and parked.

Festibond 2012 – My Date With Mom

On Saturday afternoon I went on a Festibond date with my mom. Festibond is a holiday my family celebrates every year in December. We spend a lot of time together, write each other loving letters, play games, give hugs, and my sisters and I each individually have a date with my mom and a date with my dad.

Festibond 2012 – My Date with Mom

Recently my mother and I went on a mommy-daughter date for Festibond. Festibond is a holiday my family and I have during the holiday season to bond with meaningful, exciting, and definitely fun activities. Well, one of these traditions is going on dates with family members.

My mom and I first had gone to a ballet near Portland. It was called, ‘The Magic Toy Shop’. My mom and I were very impressed by the dancers’ striking flexibility and expressions. The ballet was very funny too. You could tell the diversity of the children’s personalities, the parents, and the toys.

Festibond 2012 – My Date with Dad

Recently I had a daddy-daughter date with my Dad for Festibond. We had a great time spending time together bowling. We bowled at Bayside bowl, a site in Portland. He prefers Bayside over Vacationland, but I still don’t get why. Maybe that’s because the last time I went to Vacationland bowling was 2 or 3 years ago.

Anyway, we played two rounds. I bowled with bumpers to avoid a gutter ball but my Dad, of course, still won both rounds. At least I got the first strike. Well, my Dad is good at just about everything I guess. We had fun spending time together, and each time I went, he high fived me no matter how many pins I knocked down. That’s my Dad! He would be proud of me if I knocked one pin down. “You didn’t hit the bumper!” he’d say. I thought that was very nice of him, and I think he is a great guy. Brent got me a root beer, and he made a big deal about it because that was a once in a century thing to drink soda. I felt very very odd drinking it.

Festibond 2012: My Date With Mom

This is my family’s fifth year celebrating Festibond, a tradition we created to replace Christmas where we write letters to each other, snack, play games, and spend quality time with each other. One part of our tradition is for each of the three daughters to go on an individual date with both Mom and Dad. My first date was with my mom on Friday, December 14.

Mom picked me up from school when walkers and picker-upers were called so that we could be there early. The movie we were going to watch had just appeared in theaters and we were sure there would be a long line. When we got to the Grand Bistro Cinemagic, the line for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” consisted of two people. Mom and I sat for thirty minutes before they would let us into Auditorium 5, where the movie was playing. Only six people were there, including us. Throughout some of the movie, Mom would ask me questions about who was who. The ending was a disappointment because it was only halfway through the story. As soon as I saw the ending, I told Mom that I couldn’t wait to watch the sequel.

Festibond 2012: My Date With Dad

Since we started discussing Festibond this year, I have been so excited about the dates that each of us girls have with Mom and Dad individually. With Mom, I went to the movies and to dinner. On Wednesday, Dad and I went on our Festibond date of 2012.

After Mom dropped me off at Dad’s office, Dad and I headed to his car and drove up to Otto’s Pizza. I ordered water as my drink, but rather than tap water, I received bottled water. Dad later explained to me that there was a water break in Portland, Maine, so the fountains and tap water were not necessarily safe to drink. I ordered mashed potato, bacon, and scallion pizza, the kind I always get when I go to Otto’s. Dad and I talked about my friends, family, and school. It was great bonding time.

Festibond 2012 – My Date With Hayley

Hayley did not stop talking the entire duration of our recent Festibond date, which I loved. At one point she admitted, “I don’t know how I got from [that subject] to this.” When I suggested to her it was a bit like natural selection and geologic time, she quickly picked up on it and explained to me the analogy. “When parents have a baby, it looks much like them. But after many generations, the babies look nothing like the original parents.” Booya! That’s my girl.

Festibond 2012 – My Date With Jenna

I was really looking forward to my Festibond date with Jenna. Time alone with Jenna is always precious, as she usually prefers to be by herself, and doesn’t easily share her thoughts. Alone, she usually opens up more. I get a great deal out of our one-on-one time, and treasure every opportunity to spend it with her. We planned to go bowling, then to lunch.

Bowling at Bayside Bowl is always good. Jenna got a root beer, and I got an Allagash Black (heaven). She did a great job keeping her ball off the bumpers and hitting the pins. I wasn’t really feeling it. Blame it on the house ball and holes that are never the proper size. It was fun to get hugs and high-fives from Jenna, and to see her big smile.

Festibond 2012: My Date With Hayley

Hayley and I went out for our Festibond date this past Saturday. Several days earlier I told her about Silly’s, a restaurant in the East End in Portland. It’s a fun little place with very unique decor and an even more unique menu. When I showed her the website and online menu, she was excited to try it for our lunch date.
