For my 2013 Festibond date with Dad we went ice skating at The Family Skate Center and to dinner at Zapoteca. I had so much fun and I love my Dad so much!
We first went to L.L. Bean to get me some gloves because I needed some, and we would be near L.L. Bean anyway. Straight for L.L. Bean we went to The Family Skate Center. We rented our skates and I first tried a size one which was too small, then a size three which was also too small, and finally a size four that I fit fine. When we first got on the ice I was very wobbly, but I got used to it because it was almost like roller skating. We talked a lot while we skated, which I enjoyed a lot. I saw a banner that said, “Girls Falmouth Hockey” with the girls’ smaller banners listing awards and things like that and a banner that said, “Falmouth hockey” with the boys smaller banners listing awards and things like that which we thought was unfair. My dad held my hand firmly to prevent me from falling, and that stopped me from falling many times. My feet hurt but I continued skating because I was having so much fun with my amazing dad. After a while they started hurting more, so we got off the ice, and I took my skates off. My ankle bone was all red but felt better when the skates were off.
We started driving and while we were, my dad called Zapoteca to get a reservation. They said they started serving on trays at 16:00, so he made a reservation for then; but we had a while until then so we decided to go to Old Port Candy Company and maybe some shops. We went to Old Port Candy Company first. I got some jelly beans, dad got some fudge, and a couple truffles. after that we walked to Cool As a Moose and looked around. My dad pointed out a cool tee shirt that said, “Peace, Love, and Lobster. We were also looking at the magnets and I saw one I really liked that said, “Earth without art is just eh”. I also saw some cool bracelets that I thought were for fashion, but my dad explained to me that it was actually parachute cord that you can unravel if you ever need it. I thought that was pretty cool. I ended up getting the tee shirt, the magnet, and the bracelet. I love my dad and all the fun facts he carries!
So far I was having a great date with my amazing daddy and we talked a lot. Dad thought I had a very wide vocabulary from reading, but to me it’s no big deal because I’m used to it.
After the gift shop and candy shop, we went to a kitchen store to look at the kitchen supplies because I love baking. He pointed out an espresso machine that he wanted and I wished I could get it for him. We also saw a mini mandolin designed for cutting garlic that I thought was cool. There was a vinegar sample station with a bunch of flavors such as, “vanilla vinegar”. I thought to myself YOLO and tried the vanilla. It was so strong I felt stunned and told my dad, “You should really try this,” and when he did he had almost the exact same reaction. There was also an olive oil flavor taste testing station on the other side but I didn’t dare and neither did my dad.
We left to head over to Zapoteca and when we got there the lady running the bar was making drinks like nobody’s business. She was so fast you could easily tell this was not her first time. She seated us in a booth next to the window that was set for four but she removed two of the plates, wine glasses, etc. I set the napkin that was a reusable one–and I thought was very soft–on my lap and started looking at the menu. The names of the dishes where in Spanish because it was a Mexican restaurant, but the descriptions were in English which I found very confusing. At first I wanted to order an appetizer, thinking it was a meal, until my dad explained to me that it wasn’t meant to be a dinner. He said that I could order it as one if I liked, but I decided not to. Instead I wanted to get the pork tacos with watermelon and refried black beans on the side. My dad and I decided to get the fresh bacon guacamole and chips for the appetizer as well as some fresh salsa. My dad got a Margarita and a filet.
The appetizers came quickly and the bacon guac was amazing. When the food came my dad’s filet looked so fancy and awesome. It also look very tasty. Not exactly something you would find at Applebees! My tacos looked good too, but the pork had a sauce on it that tasted great but very spicy just like last year. No one else thought it was but for some reason it was too much for me. I got the cheese and chicken tacos to switch it out with the pork tacos. I ate it and liked it. If I didn’t think the pork tacos were spicy I would have had them but I don’t control what’s spicy to me and what’s not.
My dad and I made a bet about how much dinner would cost. I said eighty bucks and dad said seventy bucks. My dad had another Margarita so I was pretty confident that I would win. When the waiter, Holly, came and asked if we were ready for the check or if we would like a dessert. I decided I’d have the chocolate mousse. She brought it and it looked amazing! It had two raspberries, whipped cream, chocolate chips, and of course the mousse. It tasted so good but I couldn’t eat the whole thing. The check came and the total was about $78.00. We walked back to the car, talking and smiling. I had such an awesome date with my dad and I love him so much.
