Festibond 2013: My Date With Mom

As part of the Festibond tradition, Mom and Dad go on separate dates with each of us girls. It took awhile for me to decide what I wanted to do on my dates with Mom and Dad, but I finally decided that Mom and I should get manicures after going to breakfast. Mom scheduled an appointment with the Fabu salon in Portland.

We headed up to Portland early in the morning so that we could eat breakfast before our appointment. We were singing and dancing to her CDs the whole way up. For breakfast, we drove to Miss Portland Diner. I got the usual: scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, and home fries with hot chocolate. My mom got the Greek Omelet. We talked about various things and my mom tried making me laugh by copying all my moves and making faces. She loves to make me laugh.

After breakfast, we had half an hour before our manicure appointment. Mom suggested that we get some snacks for Festibond, two days after. We headed over to Trader Joe’s which was right across the street. It was hard to pick out food that we wanted considering Mom and I were both stuffed. We ended up getting some fruit, crackers, and cider.

After checking out, we headed over to Fabu Salon. It took us awhile to figure out how to work the unfamiliar type of parking meter we parked at. In fact, we had to act like secret agents and spy on some people trying to work it without them knowing. After feeding the meter, we headed over to Fabu Salon. They had nobody being treated, so they were ready for us. It was time for our appointment, anyway.

We were treated to massages and scrubs on our hands, as well as our nails being filed, cuticles pushed back, and nails painted. I care about my appearance, but not about my nails that much. I was more concerned about them feeling good and being clean than with how nice they looked. None of that matters, though. I loved hanging out with my mom. Like I stated in my Festibond letter to her, “The memories I have of our time together will not fade like the chipping paint on our freshly painted nails.”

After the manicure, Mom and I went to some shops in Old Port and ended up just getting some Maine gifts for her parents. I really enjoyed hanging out with my mom and I’m glad that dates are a part of our Festibond tradition.
